Who is Jesus?
At River Church, we believe that Jesus Christ is the central figure of our faith and the source of life, hope, and purpose. Whether you're exploring Christianity for the first time or seeking to deepen your relationship with Him, we invite you to discover who Jesus is and why He matters.
Jesus: The Son of God
Jesus is more than a historical figure—He is the Son of God, sent into the world to rescue and restore humanity. The Bible reveals that Jesus was fully God and fully human, born of a virgin, living a perfect life on earth. His teachings, miracles, and compassion reveal the heart of God.
John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Jesus: Our Savior
The core of Jesus' mission was to save us from the power of sin and death. Through His sacrificial death on the cross and His resurrection, Jesus conquered sin and offers eternal life to all who believe in Him.
Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Through His death, Jesus took the punishment for our sins, and through His resurrection, He triumphed over death, offering us new life. We believe that anyone can be forgiven and have a restored relationship with God through faith in Jesus.
Jesus: Our King
Jesus is not only our Savior but also our King. He reigns with authority, guiding His followers with wisdom and love. To follow Jesus means to recognize His authority in our lives, submitting our will to His and living out His teachings with faithfulness and grace.
Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Jesus: Our Friend
While Jesus is our King and Savior, He also calls us His friends. He invites us into a personal relationship with Him—one marked by trust, love, and intimacy. Jesus walks with us through the challenges of life, offering His peace, wisdom, and presence every step of the way.
John 15:15 says, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
